I made these flower portraits during peak pandemic isolation in 2020. I missed creating, and since we weren’t allowed to be around other people, I photographed flowers instead ! They were inspired by Jamie Beck’s painterly style, exaggerating light and shadow.
ever since photo school, i try to take a self portrait once or twice a year. this was the first time I noticed a ton of lines forming around my eyes and mouth, and my favorite sparkly Burning Man dress becoming a little too tight to wear out. embracing age and the changes in my body - and loving that with all those lines comes more wisdom, love, and adventures ❤️
Spring Tulips
I always feel like tulips signal the start of spring ! Did a simple flatlay with an assortment of pinks (I couldn't decide which color I wanted more !)
Yellow Ranunculus
Tomorrow is the first day of spring ! I've been successfully growing a few plants in my home for many months now (basil, ferns, and ivy) - so I'm happy to add my first flowers to the mix - some potted ranunculus.
Pretty in Pink
Decided it was time for a new self-portrait (for bios, contact pages, etc.) I raided my mum's closet for the pretty pink blouse (she wore it back in the 70s !) and I won the camera (brownie twin 20) in a white elephant Christmas celebration with a bunch of photographer friends. Boom !
Radishes
A year later, and I'm still on a radish kick. Lately I've been eating them 1-2x a week with some baguette, butter, and sea salt for a fresh and tasty lunch. I saw these pretty multicolored varietals in the store today and wanted to photograph something simple with them !
